Teeth Whitening

Do you smile less because you don’t want to show your stained or yellowed teeth? Quit denying the world your brightest smile! There are treatment options to create a whiter, brighter smile. Tooth whitening, or dental bleaching, is a procedure that whitens tooth enamel.

Age, bacterial pigmentation, coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco use and certain medications can all contribute to discolored or darkened teeth. Bleaching procedures use peroxide-based gel solutions applied directly to the teeth and generally kept in place by using thin trays.

Whitening can be performed at our office or by using an at-home whitening kit. Different types of discoloration and staining require different types of whitening treatments. Consult with Dr. Hodge to determine the nature of your tooth stains and which procedure is best for your desired whitening results.

In-Office vs. At-Home Teeth Whitening
If you are a good candidate for bleaching, Dr. Hodge may recommend either in-office or at-home bleaching procedures.

In-Office Whitening
In-office bleaching is a procedure that takes place at Dr. Hodge’s office and may take more than one visit to complete. Dr. Hodge will apply a protective gel to the soft oral tissues before applying the whitening gel to your teeth. A laser is often used to accelerate the whitening process when bleaching is performed in the office.

In-office whitening procedures are recommended for individuals with certain types of tooth stains. Discoloration caused by medications can sometimes be lightened by an in-office dental bleaching procedure such as deep bleaching.

At-Home Whitening
At-home whitening is more cost effective, but also takes more time. The at-home kit is comprised of a carbamide peroxide whitening solution of at least 10% and a mouth guard to keep the solution in contact with the teeth. This solution is applied to the teeth for a prescribed period of time a certain number of days per week.

Dr. Hodge will instruct you on the frequency of use of these products. Additionally, Dr. Hodge can make a custom fit mouth guard for use with these kits, which allows the solution to be in better contact with your teeth and allows for better results. Only dentist-dispensed home-use 10% carbamide peroxide tray-applied gels carry the ADA Seal.

I treasure Dr. Phil Hodge's practice and personnel. Today was just a cleaning and I received a thorough and gentle cleaning from Annie there. Had a brief hello from Dr. Hodge. I live 45-50 minutes away (on a good traffic day /time on 405) and it is... worth every minute of commute to visit this practice. I've been going here since the early 80's when we lived closer, and I wish I could keep going to Dr. Hodge always. He's the best! His staff is great too!read more

Dr Hodge and his office staff were wonderful. Dr Hodge saw in my file that I get nervous at the dentist and he called me the night before my appointment to reassure me. He was so compassionate and empathetic to my fears. I was super pleased.
